The recent flooding around Ohio has reminded me that anything can happen at a moment’s notice. It’s important to be prepared for any natural disaster or emergency. To help make sure you are ready when the next storm strikes, be certain that you have the essentials in a “Go Bag.”
- Electronics – make sure you have extra chargers for your phone or tablet, as well as a good flashlight and radio. Don’t forget extra batteries!
- Paper – include cash and photocopies of your important documents (birth certificates, social security cards, proof of address, etc.).
- Personal – add personal hygiene items, medications, and prescription glasses.
- Miscellaneous – depending on your environment and climate, pack extra clothing that is appropriate for the season’s weather. Consider packing tools, cleaning supplies, and eating utensils, as well.
Of course, you should also include enough food and bottled water for yourself and the members of your household. Plan to take about a gallon of water per person per day.
Don’t forget about your babies (or fur babies)! If you have babies or pets, be sure to prepare accordingly. Your pet will need the basics like food and extra water, but also a reflective leash and waste bags.
