We’ve all heard of some of the crazy things that celebrities have purchased insurance for – a musician’s hands, a supermodel’s legs, even a chef’s taste buds – but have you heard of these unusual types of insurance policies?

Cold Feet

We know that weddings keep getting more and more expensive and many of the deposits required on things like venues and cakes are non-refundable. However, wedding insurance policies have been on the rise since the 90s and these policies cover not only those deposits, but also the risk that the wedding will be canceled due to illness, injury, or extreme weather. Double Trouble

Having a baby is expensive, but the risk of having two or three at the same time can be financially crippling. Some expecting parents in the UK have chosen to purchase multiple birth insurance to provide peace of mind and financial security in the event that they have twins or triplets.[2] The policy must be purchased before the 11th week of pregnancy, and before any ultrasounds are done to confirm the multiple births. Who Wants to Be A Millionaire?

Did you know that most game shows that offer prize money as a reward have insurance for the risk of a contestant winning big? Shows like The Price is Right and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire often have this type of insurance – called prize indemnity insurance – to cover the million dollar cash prizes. These policies can become costly for the insurer. In fact, The Price is Right had to change the rules to their games to make it harder for contestants to win after three different people won the million dollar prizes within just six episodes! [4]

Alien Abduction

Yes, you read that correctly. According to Geico.com, around 30,000 alien abduction insurance policies have been purchased.[5] Most of these policies have been purchased as gag gifts, but if you can prove that you were actually taken, the insurance company will pay up to $10 million.

If you are worried about being taken by little green men, feel free to visit http://alienabduction.insure, where you can purchase a policy for yourself!
