Fall is the most popular American season according to YouGov.com. This favorite time of year means pumpkin spice EVERYTHING, cooler weather, and lots of holiday planning! The change in season brings a few specific things you should be focusing on to make sure your home is ready to host guests for the holidays. So let’s get this season started off right!

  1. Check for trip hazards both inside and outside your home. During this time of year, it’s typical to see an increase in the number of guests (trick-or-treaters, holiday party guests, fall gatherings, football parties, etc.) on our property. It’s also the time of year when leaves are falling and our homes are filled with more decorations than usual. To avoid injury to you or your guests, make sure the yard is clear of leaves and other debris, and that the inside of your home is kept organized and clutter-free. No one wants to spend the holiday season being faced with a liability claim from a preventable injury.
  2. Service your furnace. It’s happened to all of us – you are so excited to finally have cooler weather, so you turn on your furnace for the first time and…nothing. Your furnace is completely unresponsive and you’re stuck in a cold house. Before the colder weather is here to stay, get ahead of the game and put in a quick call to your HVAC tech and make sure your furnace is serviced and ready for the weather. Neither you nor your guests should be left out in the cold (or in a cold house).
  3. Have your pipes checked and insulated if needed. The cooler weather is a welcome change for most, but it can also come with its fair share of challenges, including freezing pipes. It’s no surprise that frozen pipes are very common and if they burst, it can cause a huge headache and a lot of repairs. Who wants to go through that when there’s football to watch and holiday parties to attend? Get your pipes checked by a professional now and, if needed, have them insulated for extra protection.

Completing these simple maintenance steps can help to make sure everyone has a great start to the BEST time of the year!
