We know we need to recruit the right people and train them well. Once these people are in place, we need a tool to help monitor performance, set development goals, determine who should be promoted, and how to compensate our people. Most companies turn to performance reviews to help manage all this.
The winter holiday season brings great things like Christmas, New Year’s celebrations, delicious food, and time with family. It also can bring not-so-great things like adding pounds to the waistline, juggling a hectic schedule, and feeling more tired when you return to work after the first of the year then you were when the holiday season began!
Wow, it’s hard to believe that 2011 is almost over! It’s been a wild ride this year, with the many ups and downs with our economy and unusual weather across our country……. so much of this is out of our control! It just seems like none of us can ever get a break!
I have handled a lot of claims in my four-plus years as a claims adjuster. I would love to say that all of them end with the insured adding me to their Christmas card list, but this is not always the case.
As a proud member of the “nerd culture,” I find it is my duty to love all things Star Wars. I’m talking about the ’70s and ’80s era (we can pretend the prequels never happened). There are a lot of things to appreciate about the films themselves, but what I really like about Star Wars is the fact that there is something in it for everyone. There is a strong-willed princess, a handsome swashbuckling anti-hero, the hero farm boy, and of course a talking metal trash can. Ok, so that last one is kinda hard to relate to, but you can see what I’m getting at. So, I thought it might be fun to try and relate Star Wars to the business world and see what kind of wit and wisdom we can come up with.
