September is one of my favorite months. It’s the official start of fall, which is my favorite season. I love the cooler weather and the changing colors. I also love the football! Being born and raised in Ohio, I am a big fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. In the spirit of full disclosure, I admit that I do not know a lot about football. I don’t know all of the rules and terms. I just enjoy the energy that surrounds football games, the food, the marching band, and the fans. Despite my limited knowledge of how the actual game works, there is one recurring theme that is difficult to miss: the theme of teamwork.

Dictionary.com defines teamwork as “cooperative or coordinated effort on the part of a group of persons acting together as a team or in the interests of a common cause.” Football players have a common goal: to win the game. Therefore, they must act as a team to accomplish that purpose. The same concept also applies to the workplace. In a company, you are also trying to achieve a common goal with your coworkers.

Try to imagine one football player playing against a full team. Winning the game alone would be nearly impossible! The same is true in the workplace. Working as a team with others creates synergy.

Teamwork is especially vital to success working in customer service. You won’t know the answer to every question asked. Being able to work together with your coworkers and determine a solution is critical to servicing customers well. The team needs to address issues so customers know they are valued. Teamwork also fosters positivity. As stated in my prior blog, Positive Employees Create Happy Customers,” when employees work together as a team, they gain trust and support. Coworkers who trust and support each other are typically more positive. The positivity is contagious and leads to happy customers. Teamwork is a valuable life skill and is critical to success.

Do you like football? How do you feel about working as part of a team? Please feel free to share comments below!
