You see the flashing lights in your rear view mirror. You think to yourself, “How fast was I going? I wasn’t going that fast, was I? Oh shoot, I’m being pulled over!” Next flurry of thoughts: pull over to the side of the road, dig license out of purse or wallet, grab proof of insurance…OH NO! You didn’t put the updated copy in your glove box. Hopefully the officer is nice enough to accept your expired copy…or not.
Has this ever happened to you? Many of us have found ourselves in this situation or maybe we’ve completely forgotten to put any proof of insurance in our car. The good news is, in this electronic world we live in, many states are now allowing citizens to provide electronic proof of insurance coverage. As of March 18, according to the Property Casualty Insurers (PCI) Association of America website, there are 31 states that allow electronic proof of coverage at traffic stops. Click here to see a map of these states from the PCI.
If your insurance coverage is with a company that offers this technology, the days of getting caught without your current auto ID cards in your glove box are numbered! Not only is it convenient, it can save you the trouble of having to show up in court to present proof of insurance, or even being cited. Our company offers this technology through the myCentral® Mobile App, and the benefit of the app is that it provides so much more functionality in addition to electronic auto ID cards. What’s not to like about that? Click the link above to watch our video and learn more.
Have you been able to use your mobile device to provide proof of insurance? How was your experience?
