As a claims adjuster, I wear a lot of different hats on a daily basis. On one hand, I am always trying to provide the best customer service, but I am also focused on the steps of adjusting a property claim or investigating an automobile accident. One of the best things about being a claims adjuster is that your job is never boring. Each claim has different circumstances, which provide separate challenges.

I have handled a lot of claims in my four-plus years as a claims adjuster. I would love to say that all of them end with the insured adding me to their Christmas card list, but this is not always the case.

I’m not sure what the weather has been like in your area over the last couple of days but in Northwest Ohio it has been crazy windy. Since becoming a claims adjuster, I think in a completely different way when it comes to the weather. All I think about are the weather-related claims that will be rolling in.

I remember when I was a kid out trick-or-treating. There was always this house set up kind of like a haunted house. Usually someone was jumping out from behind a corner or popping out of a box, trying to get you to scream like a little school girl. That is part of the fun of Halloween. However, I’m in insurance, more specifically claims, so it also gets me thinking about the things that could go wrong on Halloween and result in a premises liability claim.

An automobile accident is a scary and stressful situation regardless if it’s your fault or not. I talk to a lot of people after they’ve been in an accident and they are so shaken up that they have difficulty giving me the details of how the accident happened. I can’t blame them. I have never been in a car accident (knock on wood), but I do consider myself somewhat of a professional when it comes to what needs to be done following an accident.
